Barcelona prepares for Athletic Club clash with focus on mobility and accessibility

Matchday preparations and fan experience
FC Barcelona is set to face Athletic Club this Thursday, August 27, at 9 PM, marking the first domestic league game of their campaign. The club is emphasising sustainable mobility and accessibility for all attendees, including members, supporters’ clubs, and the general public. Private vehicles are not permitted to access the stadium, so fans are encouraged to travel on foot or use public transport whenever feasible.
To facilitate smooth entry and exit, stadium gates will open 90 minutes before kick-off, at 7:30 PM. Supporters are advised to arrive early to avoid delays. A key requirement for this fixture is named tickets; anyone who purchased tickets had to provide the ticket holder’s name by 9 PM on Wednesday, August 26, which was 24 hours before kick-off. Failure to do so would result in the ticket not being sent and access to the seat being denied.
Pedestrian entrances are designated as D-E-F-I-K-L-M-Q-V-W, accessible from Avinguda Joan XXIII, Travessera de les Corts, and Carrer d’Arístides Maillol. For wheelchair users, specific entrances are available at F (gate 4) and V (gate 22). Attendees should note that laptops, power banks, and pushchairs are not allowed inside the stadium, and there are no left-luggage facilities for personal belongings. Having tickets and identification ready is recommended to minimise waiting times, as the club reserves the right to check identities.
Coaches’ perspectives and league competition
The upcoming match at Spotify Camp Nou will feature a meeting of two German coaches with connections to the Bundesliga. Hansi Flick is beginning his third season as Barcelona manager, while Edin Terzic is preparing for his first significant test as Athletic Club manager. Despite their shared background, Terzic stated that he does not view the occasion as a personal contest between the two managers.
During a pre-match press conference, Terzic spoke highly of Flick, describing him as a “fantastic person” and an “incredible manager,” and affirmed that Flick is “the right man for Barça.” Terzic also revealed that he sought Flick’s advice before accepting his role at Athletic Club. He spent time with Flick and his coaching staff, finding it important to consult someone with experience in La Liga who also came from the Bundesliga.
Terzic emphasised that the focus remains on the teams, stating, “Tomorrow, it’s Barça against Athletic, not Hansi Flick against Edin Terzic.” Athletic Club is looking to secure their first points of the new season after a recent defeat to Sevilla. Terzic acknowledged the challenge of playing at Camp Nou but stressed that his team intends to compete actively, not merely observe. He conveyed his team’s determination to play “good football” and “fight for the points.”
Reflecting on the competitive landscape of La Liga, Terzic described Barcelona as one of the league’s standout teams. He considers La Liga among the strongest football competitions globally, with teams like Barcelona contributing significantly to its quality. Terzic also noted the current strength of both Barcelona and Real Madrid, suggesting they are close to achieving “perfection.”
New initiatives for fan safety
For this fixture, FC Barcelona is also introducing a new initiative to reinforce its commitment to combating gender-based and LGBTI-phobic violence. A Punt Lila (Purple Point) service will be operational at Spotify Camp Nou. This service will be available at all future games held at the stadium, expanding upon the framework of the Protocol-Guide promoted by LALIGA. The match is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, at 9 PM.
