Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande Bid Rejected by RB Leipzig

Yan Diomande transfer news: Real Madrid have £85m bid rejected for RB Leipzig winger

Real Madrid has reportedly had an initial bid rejected by RB Leipzig for winger Yan Diomande. Despite the rejected offer, Real Madrid is understood to be in negotiations with RB Leipzig to reach an agreement for the Ivory Coast international. Personal terms have reportedly been agreed between Real Madrid and Diomande.

Liverpool has also expressed interest in Diomande but is reportedly unwilling to exceed a certain fee. Earlier this summer, Diomande indicated a preference to move to Paris St-Germain. However, Leipzig is reportedly only willing to sell for an exceptional fee.

Competition for Diomande’s Signature

Paris Saint-Germain remains keen on the Ivory Coast international. Diomande had previously shown a preference for the back-to-back European champions, but they have not yet shown a willingness to offer a fee that would convince Leipzig to consider a sale this summer. The entry of Real Madrid into the race has reportedly changed the winger’s situation, creating more competition for his signature.

Real Madrid has been active in the transfer window following the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach. The club has already secured players such as Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella. Reports indicated in June that Madrid had been looking for a player in an attacking right-sided position, in case Brahim Diaz were to leave during this transfer window.

Diomande, who joined Leipzig a year ago from Spanish side Leganes, was also the subject of an approach from Liverpool earlier in the summer, with an offer close to £86.8m in value. The German club has reportedly been holding out for a fee closer to €130 million while also attempting to secure Diomande, whose current contract runs through the 2029-30 season, to a new deal. Leipzig is hopeful he will remain at the club beyond the September 1 transfer deadline.

Marcel Shafer, Leipzig’s managing director of sport, stated the club’s clear intention is for Yan Diomande to play for RB Leipzig next year. With six weeks remaining in the transfer window, sources close to potential deals have described the situation as an open race. Real Madrid has made an offer amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Vinicius Junior.

Diomande’s Impact and Playing Style

His performances were enough to persuade RB Leipzig to acquire him for €20 million, bringing him to the Bundesliga. He has since been described as a revelation.

Diomande featured for the Ivory Coast during the recent World Cup, where he delivered impressive performances and left his mark on the tournament. Leipzig finished third, qualifying for the 2026-27 Champions League.

Should he leave, Diomande could become Leipzig’s biggest sale. He was rewarded with the best rising player prize for the 2025-2026 season by the DFL, beating Hamburg’s Luka Vuskovic and Bayer Leverkusen star Ibrahim Maza.

Diomande thrives on the left wing, cutting in on his right foot, and his individual skill makes him a constant threat in one-on-one duels. He is capable of settling one-against-one situations and creating numerical advantages near the opponent’s box. He also contributes to setting up teammates, as seen in his expected assists and key passes. His impact in carrying the ball forward and creating chances makes him one of the most influential wingers in attacking play.

His ability to contribute to the press after losing the ball is also noted. Diomande’s market value is currently around 90 million euros.
